Jesus' Ethics

“love your enemies…and your reward will be great.” Luke 6:35

“Blessed are you when others revile you…rejoice and be glad for your reward in heaven is great.” Matt 5:11

“When you pray, pray to your Father in secret…and your Father will reward you.” Matt 6:6

“When you fast, do it so your fasting is not seen by others, but by your Father, and your Father will reward you.” Matt 6:17

As I read more and more of Jesus teachings, is it just me or is Jesus’ ethics based on a system of rewards?

I understand that Protestants are very anti “works” related, but I can’t help but see it in his words here as a motivation for righteous living.
